This paper deals with the beginning of learning to read. The importance of the syllable in reading is related to our alphabetical language. In addition, the DIAMS model supports the role of the syllable in the first oral-written link. The problem is in what way the development of the knowledge of written syllables is favorable to the first oral-written relations? An experiment was conducted in kindergarten classes to check the impact of learning the syllable upstream from learning to read. The first group of children was trained in syllabic awareness (with written support), the second on the name of the letters and the last group with classical school learning.
