The paper proposes an overview of the new themes occurred after 1989 in East Central European theatre and focuses mainly on three topics: dealing with the past (communism, Holocaust, civil war), the new social reality and the notion of identity (fragmented, sexual, European). Those motives are illustrated through the works of theatre artists from Moldavia (Esinecu), Romania (Badea), Czech republic (Havel, Radok, Nekvasil, Pařízek, Adámek), Poland (Kozyra, Warlikowski), Hungaria (Shilling), Serbia (Srbljanović, Spasojević), Macedonia (Dukovski) and Croatia (Snajder). Further more, the paper asks the question of the new challenges for the theatre in a globalized world.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
