This research synthesis aims to investigate: How can extramural English (EE) influence the EFL classroom? The research is based on different approaches towards students engagement in EE, time spent on EE activities and how it can motivate students in a formal learning environment. This paper is therefore relevant to teachers and teacher candidates interested in incorporate EE in their language learning classroom. I will highlight the Swedish curriculum which is influenced by the sociocultural theory, that aligns with type of interaction EE activities studies show students participate in.
