Master's thesis in Biological chemistry3-Nitrotyrosin (3-NT) kan være en mulig biomarkør for å måle nitro-oksidativt stress, og det er derfor av interesse å etablere en metode for å måle konsentrasjonen i humant plasma. 3-NT blir produsert in vivo ved nitrering av tyrosin med reaktive nitrogen forbindelser som peroksynitritt (ONOO-), nitrylklorid (NO2Cl) eller nitrogenoksid radikal (˙NO2). Økt nitrering av tyrosin har blitt observert ved mange inflammatoriske og neurologiske sykdommer. Et annet resultat av nitrering av tyrosin er at den kan forandre de kjemiske og biologiske egenskapene til fritt og proteinbundet tyrosin.
