In this chapter, the authors describe several studies of aircrews in simulators. The authors begin with an overview of aviation team measurement research. They describe the development of several different types of rating technologies, including checklists, rating guides, and associated training strategies. The chapter includes a series of suggestions in developing team performance measures. The suggestions concern rating techniques, stimulus design, sources of information, constructs to measure, and team training and feedback. A 6th category is reserved for special problems in reliability and validity, such as designing equivalent scenarios and problems with lack of opportunity for observing behaviors
