At Treblinka extermination camp, almost one million of people were killed during the Holocaust. A further 10,000 people are estimated to have been murdered at the nearby labour camp. Since 2007, the Centre of Archaeology of Staffordshire University (UK) has been involved in the study and research of the evidence of these atrocities in order to demonstrate how an archaeological approach to Treblinka has, and will continue to, enhance contemporary discussions about the camps and provide a richer, more accurate record of events.
