The intonation questions in northern german: characterisation of the melodic patterns in spontaneous speech

En este trabajo se describen y se caracterizan los patrones melódicos de las preguntas entonativas del alemán del norte en habla espontánea. Para llevar a cabo el análisis de los datos acústicos nos hemos basado en el método de Análisis Melódico del Habla (AMH) desarrollado por Cantero (2002). El corpus de datos está formado por 157 enunciados emitidos por 49 informantes diferentes (25 mujeres y 24 hombres). La edad de los informantes comprende una franja de edad de entre los 17 y los 75 años. La grabación de los datos se ha obtenido de diversos programas de la televisión alemana y de entrevistas realizadas en calles de diferentes ciudades del norte de Alemania. Los resultados obtenidos muestran el uso de cuatro patrones melódicos diferentes, a través de los cuales los hablantes del norte de Alemania formulan los enunciados interrogativos absolutos en habla espontánea.The present paper deals with the description and characterisation of the melodic patterns of intonation questions in the spontaneous speech of northern German. To carry out the analysis of the acoustic data we apply the Melodic Analysis of Speech (MAS) developed by Cantero (2002). Our data consist of 157 utterances from 49 different subjects (25 female and 24 male). The age of the subjects ranges from 17 and 75 years. Data recordings have been taken from several German TV programmes and from interviews held in the streets of different cities in northern Germany. The results show four different melodic patterns that speakers in northern Germany use to express intonation questions in spontaneous speech.peerReviewe
