Il cratere di Kamil è un piccolo (45 metri in diametro) cratere da impatto situato nell’Egitto sud-occidentale (22°01'06"N, 26°05'16"E) e generatosi dall’impatto ad altissima velocità di una meteorite metallica (Gebel Kamil) su di un target sedimentario (arenarie appartenenti alla Formazione Cretacica di Gilf Kebir) meno di 5000 anni fa. A causa del suo straordinario stato di preservazione Kamil è considerato un struttura tipo per i crateri a piccolo impatto sulla Terra e quindi un laboratorio naturale per indagare riguardo tutti i processi e prodotti associati con l’impatto di piccoli proiettili (Folco et al., 2011).
