This paper represents the findings of my research into the Korean wave so far. It attempts to carry out a comparative analysis of the Japanese and Korean wave in terms of distribution, production as well as consumption. It first provides an overview of the extent of \u27Hallyu phenomenon across Asia. By using textual analysis, it compares the visual and cultural meanings of Japanese and Korean dramas. It delves into the similar/ differing reception and consumption of Korean dramas across China, Taiwan and Hong Kong to problematize the notion of cultural proximity as the easy answer for the successful circulation of Korean dramas across the region.
