City and Production. a new Connection

Transformations of production spaces, in their relationship with other components of the urban and territorial structure, have constantly been a focus of attention in planning studies; Urbanistica itself has shown great interest towards this topic all along is cultural and scientific history: it hosted an article on industrial conditions in Turin in the second issue of its very first series (March-April 1932), and many other important reflections in the subsequent decades. Thus, the contemporary ‘rediscovery’ of such spaces cannot be regarded as a surprise; at the same time, some elements of originality and innovation, which are radically different from the past, characterise today the organisational forms of such spaces and the dimensions of interest for the planning debate
