International audienceThis article deals with the notion of « déclencheur » (« trigger »), applied to the initial locative adverbial occurring in locative inversions. It is shown that being a stage topic is necessary but not a sufficient condition for the adverbial to entail subject inversion. In macro-syntactic terms : the adverbial must be an intra-predicative constituent, which occupies (or, at least, is co-indexed with) the first position in the kernel. Such a condition is impossible to verify looking only at the initial place from a linear point of view.
