This research work concerns the study of carbon-based nanostructures (mainly nanotubes (NTs)) and their field emission properties, for their potential use in cold field emission guns (C-FEG). We focus on the incorporation of dopant atoms (nitrogen and/or boron) in the structure of these nanomaterials in order to modulate the electronic (field emission) properties.The doping of these nanostructures has been achieved using the carbothermal method. This technique consists in the thermal reduction of boron oxide using carbon as reducing agent and in presence of nitrogen.
