Young people and social exclusion in the globalized societies: THE NEET-s. A social-pedagogical analysis of the phenomenon.

The complexity of the world we live in, defined by Bauman “liquid modernity”, indicates how fragility and uncertainty are peculiar dimensions of our time, which force the global citizen to face the need of constantly making decisions and, at the same time, not being able to do so because of fast mutability and non-governability of the environment. Among new young people is growing more and more this sense of distrust in relating to “communitas”, fueled by insecurity as a permanent condition, which, compared to the past, is able to affect all aspects of life and accompanies their growth with a disheartened and disappointed underlying tone. So, in this contemporary scenario, what role may have pedagogy? What are the educational challenges of our time? What educational emergencies question the planet? In this sense, education represents the development and implementation of this attention and of these openings, valuing a widely social commitment that in a more pronounced and consistent way, becomes civil and political being more aware of the personal contribution to a path of humanization. In this article we highlight the need not much of a political education, but rather of an education to politic, whose difference from previous is not in content but in finality. While dealing with topics such as power, State and government, it has the purpose not to look for consensus but help to understand how social coexistence may be improved. From several years we are facing a political and social scenario in which young people struggle to fit in the world of work as well as in college courses. This generation is called the “NEET” generation (Not in Education, Employment or Training) which is translated as “do not work, do not study, do not update”. Therefore, the NEET generation indicates people who are simultaneously excluded from employment, education and formation, and that have stopped looking for a job or have no intention to do so. In view of this, it is indispensable identifying the necessary conditions in order to raise the possibilities in behalf of an active and critic citizen, available to commitment and participation
