Chronic ulcers of the lower limbs represent a significant social and economic burden. Diabetes is a strong risk factor for development of chronic lesions. Adult stem cells and growth factors derived from the adipose tissue are among the most promising therapeutic strategies for hard to heal wounds. Fat grafts have been used for several decades to treat soft tissue deformities, but despite its excellent characteristics, the outcome was unpredictable, due to partial necrosis and resorption of the graft.
