Un bassin du quartier monumental de l’agglomération antique du Castellas à Murviel-lès-Montpellier (Hérault)

During the recent archeological investigations carried out on the antic agglomeration of the Castellas at Murviel-lès-Montpellier (south-east of France, Hérault), a basin has been found near by a spring, already known (and partly excavated) during the XIX AD. The complete redemption and the hydrogeological survey allow to precise the settlings controls of the basin in this area of the antic agglomeration. It belongs steadily to the first state of occupation of the agglomeration. Then it as been integrated in a monumental augustean area where his place is very important at the intersection of the north and west branches of the portic. This situation, as so as his main caracteristics (rough architecture, low spring discharge, without outlet) suggest that this basin was much more a cultual monument than a realy utilitarian structure.À l'occasion des fouilles récentes menées sur l'agglomération antique du Castellas, à Murviel-lès-Montpellier (Hérault) a été remis au jour un bassin aménagé autour d’une source qui avait déjà été repéré (et partiellement fouillé) au XIXe s. Le dégagement complet et l'étude hydro-géologique qui en a été faite ensuite ont permis de préciser les conditions d'implantation de l'ouvrage dans cette partie du site. Il appartient sans doute au premier état d'occupation du site puis a été intégré au centre monumental d'époque augustéenne au sein duquel il occupe une place privilégiée, à l'intersection des branches nord et ouest du portique. Cette position ainsi que ses caractéristiques (aspect fruste de la construction, faible débit de la source, absence d'exutoire) conduisent à lui prêter une fonction religieuse plutôt que véritablement utilitaire.Fabre Guilhem, Magdinier Alain-Gilles, Malignas Adrien, Roumegous Anaïs, Thollard Patrick.
