Although very small, the excavation of the Saint-Laurent quarter at Vaison-la-Romaine, situated on the left bank of the Ouvèze under the so-called rock of the upper town, revealed the existence of a group of built structures consisting of walls with a single facing, retaining a considerable mass of stones. The most striking construction is a trapezoidal tower adjoining one of these walls. Several fired structures (hearthstones, ash-pit), however, exist under some of the walls. Some walls contained about twenty re-used stelae with arch-shaped tops. The arguments for dating (pottery, amphorae, an obol from Marseilles, a few metal objects ) remain scanty and give only provisional indications : the phase of construction and re-use of the stelae...
