The Haute-Normandy chalk coast is known for its important retreat, which is not homogeneous. The cliffs, located on the north-western side of the Paris Basin, are cut in the chalks of the Upper Cretaceous, which are far from being homogeneous. Because of the tectonic deformations, perpendicular to the coastline, some geological layers outcrop, from chalks with flints of the Cenomanian (sometime indurated) to the Campanian, including Turonian marly chalks without any flint.
