Flandre Intérieure, région agricole en voie de spécialisation ?

Inner Flanders, an agricultural area on the way to specialise. The Flemish farms, of moderate size, diminish slightly in number. Directed very often by full-time farmers, they increase in a remarkable manner their profitability. Intensity of land use, dairying and livestock raising qualify Flanders for the first rank and the second one in the productive areas of the département du Nord . Flanders has a sufficient range of qualifications as to be esteemed an agricultural area. Since 1955, agricultural activities progress according to the same general pattern, but in each commune some evolution is clearly seen through the heterogeneity and the diversity of the percentages of cropland and livestock. The nature and the intensity of the changes can be seen on the thematic maps. It seems to be noticeable that the area tends towards some localisation of sub-regions, grouping the similarly oriented communes. The trends of Agriculture and their reasons, the local abilities and the combination of circumstances may bestow on Flanders, within an uniform area of farming, a differentiation of intensive crop-and animal-oriented activities, the latter being without any connection to the physical surroundings. Moreover some selected types of crop production or of animal farming could be more precisely located on the landscape in the future.Flandre intérieure, région agricole en voie de spécialisation ? De moyennes exploitations y diminuent très modestement en nombre. Dirigées par des chefs d'exploitation travaillant à temps complet, elles évoluent dans le domaine économique. L'intensification des systèmes de productions classe la Flandre aux premières places dans le département. La Flandre a suffisamment de critères diversifiants pour être considérée comme région agricole. L'orientation culturale se maintient malgré l'évolution repérée dans la variation des surfaces destinées aux cultures et celle des densités de cheptel. Les causes et tendances de l'évolution, les possibilités locales, la conjoncture confèreront-elles à la Flandre un fond uniforme composé de cultures de base, d'un élevage non tributaire de conditions naturelles, sur lequel se plaqueraient en surimpression des spécialisations végétales et animales ?Foutrein Christiane.
