The aim of the present paper is to give a conceptual and epistemological analysis of the nature and the status of scientific model, in the perspective of an integrated teaching of science and technology (ITST) which intends to work on the frequent difficulties of pupils concerning the relations between the "real world" and "scientific representations" (models and theories). The paper starts from a conception of model which has two features : first, it is coherent with many uses of the term "model", and thus is acceptable, even if not universally accepted ; second, it proves to be especially interesting with respect to ITST, in particular regarding the aim to work the relation between science and reality with children.
