This article aims to identify the existence of collective competences as well as “ competences of the collective” within primary schools. The collective dimension of schoolteachers’work -institutionnally called “ teamwork” -is approached from the standpoint of competence. Different methods of investigation were used to ascertain the presence of these competences. A triangulation of collective and individual interviews and questionnaires allowed us to gather the speeches of fully-trained and posted teaching teams and those of trainee-teachers. The content analysis confirms that some competences are built and developed with and by peers, often outside institutional time. Some can be identified as collective competences.
