By using Hofmann Klemen effect (migration of small cations ) montmorittonites with residual layer charge between 25 and 120 meq/100 g of calcined product could be prepared. Then, it is po sible to establish a relation between the charge of the montmorillonite studied and the percentage of alcohol remaining after a long stay in vacuum. This retention was studied on Ca-montmorillonite samples in the case of different alcohols : methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol. Then a retention of about 2,5 alcohol molecules per residual Ca cation is observed, to which adds, according to the alcohol used, a supplementary retention ; the latter can be interpreted by hydrogen bondings between the OH ions of alcohol and the oxygens of the layer.Grâce à l'uti...
