Reckless lumbering and trading of illegally felled trees, recurrent in Ghana, have become the source of social, economical and environmental damages. This required the setting of an international institutional framework in order to help the country to better manage its forestry resources. With the help of the European Union, an action plan relating to the implementation of forestry regulations, of governance and trade was set up in order to fight deforestation. The plan requires that operators have sufficient warranties to make sure that timber and other forestry products sold on the European market comes from harvesting conforming with the regulations of the original country.
