Recent studies on the influence of forest vegetation on sediment production of marly lands make it possible to better understand erosive behaviour of marly gullies and the role of protection against erosion played by vegetation. It is thus possible to establish a gully typology of forested marly gullies which takes into account the main factors determining the erosive activity and stability at the exit of gullies, that is to say the cover of low vegetation in gully beds and the longitudinal profile of gullies.
