American investments in Canada. Since the First world war and more particularly since 1940, the United States have heavily invested in the Canadian industry : the total amount of investments reached 30 billion dollars at the beginning of the 1970s, as much as the American investments in Europe. While setting up the biggest and the most modern enterprises, the United states run almost entirely some key-sectors of industry : car rubber and electricity. These investments have increased economic change in Canada but they have also aroused complaints about the economic and cultural alienation resulting from an industry which is too much dependent on the United states only.
