This article presents a didactic setting involving a teacher and four-year old children at the beginning of school term, in which a picture book is used to help children direct their attention on the scriptural dimension of text, by attending to print and not only to pictures as a meaningful cue for understanding the story. The pic ture book is described, mainly in terms of its potential to activate knowledge components. An Interactive reading session is then analyzed following a microgenetic approach. The latter focuses on two aspects : knowledge components actually activated by the teacher and her pupils, and adjustments both make in order to create a common zone of understanding.
