(1964-1985 ) tomou medidas visando ao desenvolvimento da Amazônia : criou a zona franca de Manaus, abriu grandes eixes rodoviârios e promoveu a colonizaçâo, financiou grandes projetos pastoris e incentivou a mineraçâo das madeiras tropicais. Afalta de conhecimento da realidade regional causaram sérios impactos ecolôgicos e econômico-sociais na Amazônia. Generalizou-se, até hoje, a violência.The Amazon at the End of the XXth Century-The Amazon is the most extensive of three largest equatorial forests in the world. The present land clearing operations have caused immense ecological damage , as have the recent monoculture crops. Custom divides the Amazone region into four ecological units : the poor low tertiary plateaux ; the rich pre-Andine and vârzeas regions ; the crystalline shields and the calcareous outcrops of the lower Amazon. Three types of water courses drain the region : the rivers that have white water, the rivers of dark water, and those that have clear water. Between 1870 and 1913, the Amazon had known some prosperity with its rubber plantations, ruined, subsequently, by Asian plantations of hevea. Since the 1960s, the military governement (1964-1985 ) took measures aiming at the development of the region : creation of the Manaus region, construction of road networks, colonization, ambitious projects of agriculture and animal raising and opening of mines. Grave ecological and economic consequences of these measures threaten their success, while violence spreads.L'Amazonie est la plus étendue des trois grandes forêts équatoriales du monde. Les déboisements actuels y causent de sévères dégâts écologiques, de même que les monocultures récentes. On a coutume de subdiviser l'Amazonie en quatre unités écologiques : les bas plateaux tertiaires pauvres, les régions pré-andines et vârzeas riches, les boucliers cristallins et les affleurements calcaires du bas Amazone. Trois types de cours d'eau drainent la région : les fleuves aux eaux blanches, les fleuves aux eaux noires et ceux qui ont des eaux claires. Entre 1870 et 1913, l'Amazonie a connu le grand boom du caoutchouc, ruiné ensuite par les plantations asiatiques d'hévéas. Depuis les années 1960, le gouvernement militaire (1964-1985) a pris des mesures visant à développer la région : création de la zone de Manaus, construction de grands axes routiers, colonisation, grands projets agro-pastoraux et exploitation des mines.
