Soil conservation in Burundi. Study and hierarchy of rural antierosion strategies. Local authorities in Burundi are very concerned about increasing soil erosion, especially that affecting small farm properties with soil loss and, worse still, with decreasing soil fertility. A système approach is developped in order to point out the effective and ineffective soil protection practices as they can be observed today. The investigation relies on comprehensive visits and direct contacts with local farmers (69) in-the-field, and on the analysis of the rural development projects involved in soil protection programmes (22).
