Inter-Regional Economic Integration Difficulties in Black Africa : the Example of the UDEAC Zone. Five former Central African French colonies - Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, CAR, and Chad - decided to join their economic forces in 1964, thus creating the UDEAC. The intention of this economic and customs Union is the creation of a common economic zone. In the twenty-five years of its existence, this organization has, to a certain extent, achieved the integration of the member states, thanks to a common Customs regulation and the use of the same currency, the CFA franc.
