Le cycle khmer des douze animaux histoire d'un contact ancien entre Vietnam et Cambodge [On the khmer twelve-year animal cycle : evidence of ancient contact between Vietnam and Cambodia]

Three-quarters of a century before, George Cœdès showed that eight of the terms in the Khmer duodecimal cycle were related to the usual names of the corresponding animals in Muong (a dialect close to Vietnamese). Today, one can assert that the twelve terms of the whole cycle, including 'year', are borrowed from Old Vietnamese. For each term, we compare modern forms, epigraphic occurrences and reconstructions in the concerned languages. Substitutions of animal names are highlighted. The oldest attestations of Vietnamese words are found in the ancient Khmer inscriptions.II y a trois-quarts de siècle, George Cœdès a montré que huit des termes du cycle duodécimal khmer étaient apparentés aux noms usuels des animaux correspondants en muong (dialecte proche du vietnamien). Aujourd'hui, on peut affirmer que les douze termes du cycle entier, plus 'année', sont des emprunts au vietnamien ancien. Pour chaque terme, on compare les formes modernes, les attestations épigraphiques et les reconstructions dans les langues concernées. Des substitutions de noms d'animaux sont mises en évidence. Les plus anciennes attestations de mots vietnamiens se trouvent dans les anciennes inscriptions khmères.Ferlus Michel.
