Human Schistosomiasis in the World -Human schistosomiasis or bilharzio-sis are endemic in seventy-four tropical and sub-tropical countries. African populations are exposed both to the urinary form and to two intestinal forms, where as in East Asia and in South America there is but a single intestinal form of the disease. The development of these diseases that are transmitted by hydrous means is both a result of the ecology of aquatic mollusks (playing the role of intermediary parasite hosts) and of human behavior (final hosts and parasite reservoirs).
