Definition of the Phoenicean juniper (Juniperus aggr. phoenicea ), revisited at its biogeographical limits : Western Mediterranean area (Creta and Cyprus) and Atlantic sea (Canarian islands) This paper contributes to the better understanding of the systematic status of Juniperus aggr. phoenicea L. through comparative phytochemical and morphometric studies. For this purpose, this taxon was sampled in the Mediterranean region, extending from Cyprus and Creta to its occidental limits in the Canarian Islands. Two well-defined taxa : J. phoenicea L. and J. turbinata (Guss.) emend., previously raised to the status of species, are confirmed here.
