The tanker fleets of under-developped countries.-The tonnage of the world tanker fleet has increased substantially since the end of World War II. After a slow growth during the fifties and the sixties, the tonnages registered in under-developped countries increased greatly after 1970, then became stabilized after 1978 ; today, they represent more than 43 % of the total world tonnage. National fleets were built, with private or public capital, and certain nations -in particular Liberia and Panama-have welcomed ships outfitted in 16 industrial countries.
