GOVERNANCE AND PARTICIPATIVE CITIZENSHIP IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

<p>Governance acquired an enormous importance in the current globalized world by becoming an instrument used to elaborate uniform practices that guarantee greater participation, efficiency, transparency and legitimacy, implying an increase of democracy in the state solutions of conflicts in search with a view to the peace. In this sense, it seeks to delimit the application of the concept of governance as an expression of good public administration, including through a greater involvement of citizens, in casu, in the process of integration of the European Union. It is concluded that citizen participation in the decision-making system of the European Union is still under development, according to an arduous and continuous process of improvement, becoming one of the principles that underpin European governance in the search for more effective public management, efficient, transparent and that is able to print, in this process, increase of legitimacy to the state acting, contributing to the concretization of participatory democracy and peace in the European Union.
