The Water Poverty Index (IPH) is a new holistic tool that contributes to integrated water management. It evaluates water poverty in countries, regions or communities. The objective of this study is to estimate the IPH in the Gargaú community, in the estuary of the Paraiba do Sul River, and link the welfare of families with its water availability. Five major components integrated IPH: water resources (R), access to water (A), water uses (U), capacity (C) and environment (E). Considering equal weights to all components (wi = 1), we have IPH = 74.6
