This article gives a first overview over student-teacher-relationships on the social networking sites (SNS) Facebook and WhatsApp. Twelve problem-centered interviews with students were held and interpreted using a qualitative content analysis. Results show, that students interact with their teachers in different formats and speak about topics ranging from school matters to private life. Students’ ideas about their teachers’ roles include authority figures and persons of trust, experts and leaders
