This paper discusses cultural mediation as a methodology for educational institutions to adopt systematically in their efforts to successfully integrate foreign pupils with the support of new educational technologies. Following a comparative analysis of data and experiences from across Italy, the paper illustrates a program carried in several Sicilian schools that addressed three facets: teacher training, the active participation of a cultural mediator and cooperation between local institutions. In addition to highlighting the limitations and problems that the various experiences faced, the analysis emphasizes the crucial importance of promoting and strengthening cultural-linguistic mediation and educational support actions.
