Human behavior appears to be regulated in part by noradrenergic transmission since antidepressant drugs modify the number and function of (beta)-adrenergic receptors in the central nervous system. Affective illness is also known to be associated with the endocrine system, particularly the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.
