Understanding human-computer interaction is an issue which is gaining more attention. Significant progress in the design of better interactive systems will come through a needed methodology. Facts and beliefs about interaction are recalled. Four approaches to a conceptual framework which have been advanced are sketched. Some problems are outlined.
