This thesis deals with analysis of the steady state power flow in the Swedish railway electrical system. Finding the steady state of the system means that all voltages and power flows in the system are known. The trains are supplied from the public grid using frequency converters. This is the major difference compared with ordinary power systems fed from turbine-driven generators. The output voltage phase shift function for the converters is important in the mathematical formulation of the problem. In the system, the locomotives are almost entirely of the Re-type, having a rectifier and d.c.-motors.
