The phenomenon of dispersion/fragmentation of corium remains one of the most complex and uncertain elements of nuclear accident modeling. In order to validate the sub-mesh models implemented in the MC3D software (developed by IRSN), an experiment without vapor explosion has been conceived. It consists of a low-melting liquid metal jet (Field metal) interacting with a stagnant water in a large tank. This thesis is divided into two parts ; the first one is related to the study of the so-called secondary fragmentation of an isolated drop of Field’s metal, for low Weber number.
