The design of a thermonuclear fusion reactor, including ITER, requires a detailed description of the confined plasma properties (confinement time, radiation, stability, etc.) as well as its interaction with the reactor wall (mainly the divertor). Indeed, the operational space of a fusion reactor is strongly limited by the amount of power per surface unit that the wall material can extract locally. With respect to the symmetries of the system, the heat load can be parameterized by two quantities: a peak value and a spatial width. Currently, there is no physical model able to predict the peak value and the width of this heat load.
