Note:The kinetics of precipitation of Nb (CN) were determined in two selected microalloyed steels with a view to accounting more precisely for the effect of precipitation on the recrystallization kinetics. The two steels chosen contained 0.018 and 0.035% Nb, added to a base composition of 0.06% C and 0.42% Mn. They were austenitized at 1100°C for 30 mins. and cooled to the various testing temperatures at about I°C/sec. A new mechanical test method was developed for following the progress of precipitation. The test technique is based on the effect of holding time at temperature (and therefore of the amount of prior precipitation) on the shape of the flow curve.
