Se estudió la epoxidación asimétrica de R-(+)-limoneno en presencia del catalizador de Jacobsen y su contraparte aquiral tanto en fase homogénea como heterogénea (inmovilizado en Al-MCM-41) y utilizando dimetildioxirano preparado in situ como agente oxidante. Se encontró que la actividad catalítica del catalizador quiral y aquiral fue muy similar, bien sea en fase homogénea o heterogénea. Este resultado sugiere que la formación preferencial del producto mayoritario (cis-(+)-1,2-óxido de limoneno), no depende únicamente del centro quiral del catalizador, sino que también participa el centro quiral del R-(+)-limoneno.
