Ethnographic qualitative study conducted in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico in 2011. Objective: To describe and analyze the traditional knowledge of the older person to stay healthy in a rural area in order to construct the subjective meanings that people attach to this experience. The study subjects were seven older adults who participated voluntarily and were determined by saturation of the speeches. For the analysis and interpretation of the data were considered cultural domains, taxonomic analysis and analysis of issues as Spradley (1979). Results: We identified 12 domains, 8 taxonomies reflecting on the theme "The necessary synergy between knowledge of traditional medicine and modern medicine for intercultural health care" and sub-themes: "Health in the entire worldview be human "," the disease disrupts the balance between body, mind and spirit "," traditional knowledge in healthcare continues the tradition and cultural identity "and" Biodiversity as a source of life”. Conclusion: It is important to build a model of intercultural care of synergy between knowledge of traditional medicine and knowledge of modern medicine for humanized care through loving treatment, inclusive, supportive and respectful of the dignity and cultural identity.Estudio cualitativo etnográfico realizado en Celaya, Guanajuato, México en el 2011. Objetivo: describir y analizar los saberes tradicionales de la persona adulta mayor para cuidar su salud en una zona rural a fin de construir los significados subjetivos que las personas atribuyen a esta experiencia. Los sujetos de estudio fueron 7 personas adultas mayores, que participaron voluntariamente y fueron determinados por saturación de los discursos. Para el análisis e interpretación de los datos se consideraron los dominios culturales, análisis taxonómico y análisis de temas según Spradley (1979). Resultados: se identificaron 12 dominios, 8 taxonomías reflejándose en el tema principal “La necesaria sinergia entre el saber de la medicina tradicional y la medicina moderna para un cuidado intercultural de salud” y los subtemas: “La salud en la cosmovisión de totalidad del ser humano”, “La enfermedad rompe el equilibrio entre cuerpo, mente y espíritu”, “El saber tradicional en el cuidado de la salud mantiene la tradición e identidad cultural” y “La biodiversidad como recurso de vida”. Conclusión: Es importante la construcción de un modelo de cuidado intercultural de sinergia entre el saber de la medicina tradicional y el saber de la medicina moderna para un cuidado humanizado a través del un trato amoroso, incluyente, solidario y respetando la dignidad e identidad cultural.Tesi
