Anthropomorphic animals in animated movies : A qualitative survey of human approach to animal production in film, and how it can affect both animals and humans.

The purpose with this essay is to understand the way we use animals in animated movies. And by doing so I want to analyze if there are any negative/positive effects towards the animals, when seeing animals in media, posing as humans. Do humans see or treat them any differently when we see them one way in a movie, to how they really are in real life. My research are analyzing two animated movies that uses anthropomorphic animals as characters in their stories - and those are Zootopia and Madagascar. I also use theoretic litteratur and articles to easier understand the relationship between animals and humans, and also why humans have chosen to use animals like this throughout the times. Aside from analyzing the anthropomorphic side of the essay, I also use a perspective that examines if there are any discrimination between species. Somehow its seems like we think we more easily understands them when we get to use them like this, but in this process we only choose to use the animals that are found most interesting. And other animals, like cattle-animals, we almost never use - or only in very small characters who are then seen as dumb, silly and foolish. It is distinctly that humans and animals have a pretty difficult relationship by the fact that we don't understand each other. This essay have helped me understand our relationship better, but I also think there is something between humans and animals that is destined to be left unsaid. Its a privilege that we can use them like we do in movies to feel connected, but humans have a big responsibility towards the animals when doing so, that is always to enlighten children to how the world really works.
