Intracavity optogalvanic spectroscopy (ICOGS) has been proposed as a method for unambiguous detection of rare isotopes. Of particular interest is 14C, where detection of extremely low concentrations in the 1:1015 range (14C:12C), is of interest in, e.g., radiocarbon dating and pharmaceutical sciences. However, recent reports show that ICOGS suffers from substantial problems with reproducibility. To qualify ICOGS as an analytical method, more stable and reliable plasma generation and signal detection are needed. In our proposed setup, critical parameters have been improved.
