This thesis aims at providing comprehensive descriptions of Vafab and Wuhan household waste management systems and comparing the two systems for the purpose of better understanding over the similarities and differences between these two cases. Literature study, semi-structured interviews and field studies have been applied as methods to describe both Vafab and Wuhan municipal solid waste management (“MSWM”) from the past to the future. A primary feasibility study is also presented to further evaluate the possibility for Wuhan to implement Vafab’s household waste management strategy to improve Wuhan MSWM current status quo from legal, social and technical perspectives.
