In order to understand the accuracy of our DDW effects on life experiments we need a way to ensure that the deuterium depleted water is not rapidly changing into normal water (which contains approximately 150ppm deuterium). We have used FTIR spectroscopy to determine if this is a viable method to ascertain differences in the amounts of deuterium between various water types. In this study we are comparing the transmission curves of DI water, 99.9% D2O, DDW (<1ppm deuterium), an approximately 50/50 mix of DDW and D2O, and a 3 month old sample of DDW.
