Chs affects the viability of RAW cells.

<p>Cells were exposed to different concentrations of Chs-LDL (1000∶1) (Ο), Chs-POPC liposomes (45∶55) (♦), and Chs-(Ac-LDL) (1000∶1) (X), for 24 (A) or 48 h (B) under the experimental conditions described in <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0034822#s4" target="_blank">Methods</a>. Cell viability was assessed by the MTT assay and is expressed relative to the viability of control cells exposed to Nat-LDL (for Chs-LDL) or Ac-LDL (for Chs-(Ac-LDL)). Control cells for Chs-POPC liposomes treated cells were incubated with POPC liposomes. Values are means ± SD of three separate experiments. Experimental data were fitted using a log-logistic equation: , where <i>Y</i>_[Chs], <i>Y</i>_max and <i>Y</i>_min are the fraction of viable cells for a given exposure concentration of Chs, the maximum, and the minimum values of <i>Y</i> required for the best fit, respectively, and <i>β</i> is the slope of the change between <i>Y</i>_max and <i>Y</i>_min. The table (C) shows the fitting parameters (including LD₅₀) obtained from the theoretical fits to the experimental data.
