<p>TIMP-1-GPI inhibits the secretion of pro-MMP-2 and pro-MMP-9 from mesothelial cells. Gelatinase zymography was used to characterize the level of MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins in mesothelial cell culture supernatants. The cells were treated with increasing amounts of TIMP-1-GPI (0−14 ng/ml), or control rhTIMP-1 (14 ng/ml), and after 48 h the serum-free culture supernatant was removed and analyzed on a gelatinase zymography gel <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0033963#pone.0033963-Klier1" target="_blank">[16]</a>.</p
